Washington: Amidst the ongoing tension in the Middle East, the situation suddenly worsened on the nights of Thursday and Friday. Iran attacked many military bases of America and Israel with missiles and drones. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) itself has taken responsibility for firing the missile at Prince Sultan Air Base in Al-Kharj area of Saudi Arabia.
Iran, through IRGC, had targeted the radar system and Prince Sultan base in Al-Kharj area. Saudi defenses intercepted several missiles – some reports say 6-7 ballistic missiles and drones were shot down. But once or twice missile debris fell in the residential area, killing two foreign workers – an Indian and a Bangladeshi (in some reports both were described as Bangladeshi, but in most reports Indian-Bangladeshi is confirmed). 12 people were injured. This was the first major impact on the civilian area in Saudi.
One damaged US refueling plane (tanker) on the ground was seen, WSJ reported. Planes are being repaired, no deaths. Saudi is saying that the air defense system is working, but Iran is trying again and again.
Missile hits US Embassy compound on Saturday (March 14, 2026), and smoke rises in helipad area. Some reports are saying that it is a drone strike, but no deaths have been reported yet. defense systems appear to have been targeted. This is the second attack on the embassy since the war started. Iraqi government condemned it. Drones also came near the airport complex but were dropped outside only.
While intercepting the drone, debris fell near the port and caught fire. Oil loading was stopped for some time. One Jordanian suffered minor injuries. Fujairah is a big oil hub outside the Strait of Hormuz, so there is some tension on global energy supply, but now it seems to be under control. Iran had also issued a warning on UAE ports.
The Saudis shot down several drones and missiles that were attempting to target the Shaybah oil field, but most were intercepted en route. Overall, the situation is still critical. Iran is counter-attacking; the US, Israel, and Gulf countries in defense mode. There is no new major civilian damage yet, but the risk remains.
